Interview Preparation Guide
Everything you need to walk into your interview with confidence. Practical tips, honest advice, and the support of your recruiter every step of the way.
Your interview is closer than you think
Being invited to interview is a big deal — it means the employer already likes what they see on paper. Now it's your chance to bring that to life in person.
This guide covers everything from preparation and presentation to the questions you should be asking. Read it, bookmark it, and come back to it the night before.
Do your research
- Research the company — their services, values, and any recent news. Showing you know who they are makes a strong first impression.
- Re-read the job description carefully. Be ready to explain how your experience matches each key requirement.
- Look up the interviewer on LinkedIn if you know their name. Understanding their background can help you connect.
- Prepare two or three thoughtful questions to ask at the end. It shows genuine interest and helps you assess if the role is right for you.
Plan your day
- Know exactly where you are going and how long it will take. Do a trial run if you can, or check the route the day before.
- Aim to arrive 10 minutes early — not too early, not late. Arriving flustered sets the wrong tone.
- Have the interviewer's contact number saved in case of any unexpected delays. Let your recruiter know too.
- Get a good night's sleep. It sounds simple, but being well-rested makes a real difference to how you come across.
Presentation matters
- Dress appropriately for the role and company culture. When in doubt, smart is always safer than casual.
- Bring a printed copy of your CV, even if you submitted it digitally. It shows preparation.
- Turn your phone to silent before you walk in. Not just vibrate — silent.
- A firm handshake, good eye contact, and a genuine smile go a long way before you've said a word.
Answering questions well
- Use the STAR method for competency questions: Situation, Task, Action, Result. It keeps your answers structured and easy to follow.
- Be honest. If you don't know something, say so — then explain how you would find out or approach it.
- Avoid speaking negatively about previous employers. Keep it professional, even if you left on difficult terms.
- Take a breath before answering. A short pause to think is far better than rushing into a rambling response.
After the interview
- Call or message your recruiter straight after to share how it went. The sooner we know, the sooner we can act.
- Reflect on what went well and what you would do differently. Every interview is a learning experience.
- Don't read too much into the length of the interview. Short doesn't mean bad — some interviewers are simply efficient.
- Be patient while waiting for feedback, but don't hesitate to check in with your recruiter if you haven't heard back.
